@gregchijoff9959 Indeed, it was the Soviet Union that reacted to NATO, not the other way around. And that MANY years later - at the same time where the USA stationed its nukes right at the eastern border of NATO in Europe. Soviet Union tried for ten years to get a peace treaty after 2.WW, what by the way include to draw back from most eastern European countries. Russia never wanted to keep those - they were forced to. Else the USA would have pushed their nukes up to Moscow - and they had just used such nukes some years ago back then. TWICE. On civil cities. Then few years later carpet bombed Korean cities with Napalm. They were KNOWN as monsters who did not care for genocide to reach their goals.

Sorry, but NATO was never created to conter anything, but to continue 2.WW with the USA as the new Führer, giving it all a new name (Cold War), but keep the goal: conquer the Soviet Union and and rob its massive resources. Nukes just made it impossible.
