Hm, the philosophical zombie would be a human simply operating on their urges. For that you don't need a consciousness, you would just follow the orders of your body: hunger -> eat something, if nothing to eat -> hunt something, if body gives message to mate, find sex partner and mate, if offspring is created -> probably care for it. This and some extra would be enough for that "zombie" to work and even reproduce - so pretty much on the level any program could do.
Overall, if you take the "fairy dust" out of the theories, like a "soul" and alike, you can quickly reduce the human body to a biological machine.
The "consciousness" part is the one, where you start to think about that machine and your urges and may not follow them or do things beyond them.
Pretty much the most crucial part when it comes to AI: if it starts to do things you didn't tell/teach it to do.
