Those "AI"s aren't real AIs, by that it's just like telling them to write a random story or whatever. They will do that, but they will not really understand it.

@fontenbleau It was Reagan. Just look up Able Archer. It's said that the spies in the USSR desperately called their superiors and told them to stop whatever they are doing, because the USSR thought it was real and that the world was around 10s (not literally) away from nuclear annihilation. Same as during the Cuba crisis, where US ships started to bombard USSR submarines - not knowing that those had nukes on board. You know the the movie "Crimson Tides"? It's bases on that. The Soviet Submarine could not reach Moscov and since they were attacked they thought that the USA started the war and it was now about if they would use their nuclear weponry to sink the whole US fleet above them. One one was against this and in the end persuaded the others to risk emerging so they could contact Moscow. There was also another accident, where a warning system of the USSR gave a false warning, but the human controlling it realised, that it must be wrong (since it would have been single missile). Unlikely that this would have escalated, but not impossible.

Sad enough, it's more likle that nuclear weapons are the reason we still exist, because even fascists fear to not survive them. Else they would already have started 3rd, 4th and 5th WW.

@walterblanc9708 The real we got no escalation is that Russia and China aren not as insane as we are and didn't react to most of our aggression in the same escalating way beside making clear that if that aggression from the west would go nuclear, they would always nuke NATO emperor USA first.
