Bezos did not went int to buy the WP, the WP came to him to beg him saving the newspaper not only with money but with his skill for economical decision. Bezos said, that he got no problem helping with money and advice regarding economical aspects, but that he want to stay out of the whole journalism part, because he's no journalist and by that the wrong person to make descisions in that regard. Amazon in general avoids to get into political struggle.
