They likely got the idea, that Russia got the same problem as them = limited amount of soldiers and resources, so they want to force Russia into a defense there and take away troops from the east. Of course this doesn't work, because the main reason for Russia to do a partial mobilisation was just that: to build up a defense over the whole frontline without any need to move troops around and with massive backup for each part. That you don't see much of those is part of the deception that is the very core of all tactic and strategy. Both are pointless, if you don't manage to hide them from the enemy.
