  1. I think the main reason they don't want to give up on Kherson is, that they have gotten the city without much fighting, means there is not much destruction. Giving it up and taking it back later isn't a problem, but it could cause a lot of destruction. Likely also one of the reason they cut down Ukraine inftrastruture now. Overall, if the fighting ends, this can still be replaced quite quickly. Russia could also burn down cities like Ukrop Nazis do, but that's the military worth of it? There is none.

  2. The whole attack now is not retaliation at all. Ukrop Nazis/NATO simply pushed it further and further and the more they push the higher the amount of force from Russia will get to stop them. They get closer to the last warning levels they got. This was still warnings - but they still don't stop. A bit further and Russia will just switch all lights off. What they could do since day 1...
