  1. Was also just standard military strategy to shorten the frontline. You don't hold onto area that isn't of direct importance to you, when it would be a burden for your soldiers and logistics.

  2. Can't avoid what already happened. Ukraine lost 2014, when it let a coup happend, that made it a puppet of NATO fascism, pushed it into civil war, ripped it apart by that and now escalated it to a point where it is not clear if it will survive as the broken state Ukraine at all. Not even by any of the military damage and losses of lives, but all the corruption and crushing debt.
