  1. Many germans becamse membesr of the NSDAP (as the party of the Nazis was called), simply because it was kind of needed. Even inside the party, many did not share the racist ideology (that was by the way copied by the Nazis from the USA - which supported them a lot, partly even througout the war).

  2.  @BrassBashers  Nazis caused over 27 million dead in the Soviet Union alone - over half of them civilians. No, not way worse, simply the same.
