  2. Russia acted fast at beginning. Pinning operaton at Kiev to bind the coup regime forces and use this to secure all the terrain up tot he fortified frontlines. The 'success' of the coup regime afterwards came by Russia switching strategy after the talks failed and shortened the frontline. It was absolut obvious, that they did not care to hold any of that area the coup regime 'conquered' since they had zero build up of defense. Strategicaly it would also not have made much sense, it would have made an already extremely long frontline even longer and that withotu any strategical or tactical gains.
