Unlikely that this would even work. A big problem of nuclear bombs is to make it work before the material is just blasted away. You can't just scale it upwards endlessly. It would also be so absurd big, that the USA would have to use it on their homeground, so the would mainly annihilate themselve, while most of the energy would simply be shot into space, including most material. HIgh explosive bombs actually create less lasting problems than smaller ones because of that. Their idea was likely that an explosion of that size could ignite the atmosphere, but that fear was proven wrong, it doen't work like that.
