Always have to explain to peoplekm, that the GDP mainly means how much the life in a country is monetarized, not how productive it really is. As fictional exampoe, you could take 100 millionen people paying each other 100$ to swipe each others bottom (and all you need is a single 100% note to make the round) and you would generate a 1 billion GDP - without having actually creaeted anything or make anything different, those 100 million people still just swipe a behind, just that of another person and they pay 100$ to someone for that and take 100$ for from someone for that. If you have many people paying rent? Good for the GDP. If everyone owns the house or appartment they live in? Devastating for the GDP (additional pending on the way it is counted). Difference regarding the living situation itself? None. By the way: reusing and sellin existing things = terrible for the GDP, because for example a 2 second hand car is not seen as value in GPD. So wasting a hell lot of resources to play old stuff with new stuff instead of keep the old stuff working = terrible for GDP. GDP has a whole mountain of problems.
