Ummm...I thought the Stinger and the G70 were the European sport sedan alternatives from Hyundai/Kia/Genesis🤔...really, Redline??? That’s no slight against the K5. I think the whole really powerful FWD burnout sensation is hilarious, too! But I definitely wouldn’t go so far as to consider this an alternative to European sports sedans, especially when they have the Stinger and G70.

@zach busman Even still, though, the G70 and Stinger still represent extremely compelling value propositions in comparison with the German options while still being much more comparable vehicles to those German entries overall. Sofyan’s push of the whole “discount European luxury sedan” idea just strikes me as regurgitation of the Kia marketing talking point.

Yes, the numbers the K5 puts down may be comparable to the German choices, but numbers never tell the whole story. The RWD platforms of the Germans (and the 40-60 front-rear biased AWD of the A4) lend themselves to greater handling finesse than the K5. Finesse that the Stinger and the G70 possess. If you look purely at stat sheets and spec sheets, sure the K5 may stack up well. But there other ways in which those European options (and the Stinger and G70) separate themselves that a stat sheet or a spreadsheet simply won’t capture.

Personally, I’m more interested in how this stacks up in the segment it actually competes in as opposed to cars in a completely different segment, and I wish Redline had given a little more critical thought to the comparisons they made in this video instead of simply repeating Kia’s marketing lines.

Bottom line for me is if we’re talking purely the mainstream midsize family sedan segment, Accord and Mazda6 are still my top 2 in this segment personally, but I’d put the K5 right behind those 2 and above the Sonata and Camry. Accord is comparably quick to the Sonata/K5 2.5T, if slightly slower, but I think I’d prefer the Accord’s handling personally from what I’ve read. Mazda6 may be considerably slower, but I definitely think it’s still the supermodel of this segment and the interior is the most luxurious in that segment, even if some of the tech is lacking. If we’re talking compact luxury sports sedans, for the record, I actually prefer the Stinger and G70 to the German choices! But I’ll say it one last time - I just find the comparison between the K5 and compact luxury sports sedans to be made purely for marketing’s sake.

@Ayush Malpeddi Yeah, in my previous comment I was thinking more holistically.
