  1. +crimenot alwaysbad They brought peace to Western Europe by co-jointly defeating Nazi Germany, and to the pacific by defeating Imperial Japan. As an added bonus they prevented Western Europe from falling under the Soviet/Russian sphere of influence. There are more (minor) cases, like they used their influence to end the Suez crisis and also the occupation of Indonesia, they helped fight the North Korean conflict to a cease fire, maybe not peace but better than South Korean losing that war. I'm sure there are more, but these are just a few that come to mind. I might not be Obama (he's generally to busy to answer questions of random Youtube users I suspect), but I still hope this answered your question to your satisfaction.

Personally, I don't think the Soviet Union had equal part in the defeat of Japan, similar to the USA not having equal part in the defeat of Nazi Germany. (at least not in terms of military contribution). Regardless though, the question that was asked was about the USA, not the Soviet Union.

That you feel that the previous iteration of your country didn't get the attention it deserves because I didn't mention them, is, I suspect, due to what seems to be an inherent Russian inferiority complex towards the USA. I'm not here to help you with that.

Normally I would advice someone in the adult stages of life to get help for that, but for someone from Russia that probably means just hitting the bottle.

Even if you want to go down the conspiracy road, of say Henry Ford supporting the Nazis or whatever, a minority is not representative for a whole country. We don't blame all Russians (or Georgians)for Stalin. Not all Arabs are to blame for the slavery some of their ancestors engaged in, in the past millennium. etc etc As for "the war would be won anyway"-argument, though that might be true, it would be a Pyrrhic victory, exchanging one dictatorship for another. And it ignores that fact that what you mention is only hypothetical and that in reality the Americans were involved in the war and did help to end it. You asked a question, you got your answers and now it appears you want to change the question because you don't like the answers.

  8. +Denis Sokolov It's funny how at no point did I belittle the Soviet involvement in world war 2, yet the mere mention of America being a participant in WW2 makes you Russians throw a hissy fit. Btw, if you had read my subsequent comments you would have known that I acknowledge already beforehand that Russia carried the European war, but also that the USA carried the war in the Pacific. We can speculate on the importance of the American contribution on ending the war in Europe, but we'll never know, since we can't rewind time and find out. And you can speculate both ways, for example, you could argue that the USA kept Britain into the war, and Britain broke the German airforce during the Battle of Britain. Its mere existence as an unoccupied territory meant the Germans could never fully commit to its Eastern front as well. Of course, this is mere speculation, and also irrelevant since even though the war might have been won in the long run, it would have been of little use since then Western Europe would have fallen under Soviet influence the same as Eastern Europe had. For many people that would hardly be considered an improvement over being occupied by Nazi Germany.

  9. +Denis Sokolov Of course I am happy that Japan got defeated in Manchuria. That the Russians suffered more losses than the Americans says nothing about America's dedication, it might just be that Stalin didn't care much about the lives of the ordinary soldiers under him. The war in the Pacific didn't start with the atomic bomb. It was about breaking Japan's naval supremacy, something I personally doubt the Soviet Union could have done. And just FYI, I'm not American, I couldn't care less about your faux moral indignation.

  10. +Denis Sokolov That's still less people than died in the Soviet gulags. Where is your "moral outrage" about that? Or about the Soviets performing nuclear tests on their own people? (i.e. the Totskoye nuclear exercise). If you want to argue that the Soviet Union has some moral high ground over the USA, then you're not only completely off-topic, you're dead wrong as well.
