  1. Believe both. It's a turning point in that it held up Russian forces for nine months and inflicted horrendous casualties on them. Pergozhin has just now confirmed 20,000 kia's for Wagner alone in this one battle. It tied down the Russians and siphoned off its reserves as Ukraine prepares it's next counteroffensive. It's insignificant only in that Bakhmut holds very little real strategic value in the scheme of things. For Russia, it was like their Verdun in terms of human cost, out of all proportion to it's strategic value. It was strictly a symbolic obsession for them, and now Putin can claim his little propaganda "victory". Russia can't afford many more such. Ukraine played it brilliantly, even against our own advice, and now holds all the initiative. .
