Ukrainian military units surrounded the airport and pushed back the Russian forces by the evening, forcing remaining Russian airborne troops to retreat to forests outside of the airport. Russian elite airborne Spetsnaz was annihilated by the evening. Ukrainian units and civilian hunters took care of the scattered in the forests remaining Russian Spetsnaz by the next morning. Then Russian mechanized ground forces arrived from Belarus, but that's a different story.
