  9. There was no real chance or desire by Ukraine to join NATO before Russia cowardly invaded and started this war in 2014. Russia already had direct borders with NATO in the west (Baltic states) and in the east (USA) in 2014. And, Russia already confirmed that NATO expansion to Russian borders is actually not a real threat (Finland's NATO membership). So, this war was never about NATO, it's just a BS excuse for Russian imperial aggression and desire to resurrect USSR v2.

But since the northern tip of Ukraine would be about 100 miles closer to Moscow than Latvia (NATO), it would be such a "mortal threat" that Russia was "forced" to invade and annex the most southern part of Ukraine (Crimea) in 2014. Like I said, no point for Russia to keep pedaling this BS excuse because they didn't object to Finland joining NATO.
