  6. The world has largely replaced Russian raw materials (oil, gas, grain, lumber, metals), so raw material exports are currently far from enough for a desperate Russia. That's why Putin has imposed draconian random taxes on virtually everything that moves, collecting trillions of rubles from corporations and oligarchs. Russia is running record budget deficits. That's why record amounts of money are being printed and banks and private individuals are being forced to buy worthless Russian promissory notes.
