Certainly Britain did well, but so did the Indians, and I suspect they were more benevolent than the Mughals, who were also colonists ... but let's ignore that when we selectively bash the British Empire

India gained overall from colonisation, don't pretend you'd have done better under the Mughals, or that you'd have found the enlightenment values on your own.
