  2. Sandy has overhyped and overestimated Chinese companies succeeding in the US for about a decade. They will struggle with safety immensely without foreign engineers doing work for them (see NIO). Chinese and Japanese are different people with different cultures, ethics, and moralities. This is reflected in every product. Chinese products are dubious at every level because of their morals and, yes, they do design mostly junk. Manufacturing according to western instruction and oversight is not the same as them doing it all themselves. Also, number of EV models per group is a meaningless measurement by itself.
