  1. Collectivism is basically the idea that individuals only purpose is to serve an enforced collectivist ideology. Think of an ant colony. Individualism is basically the idea that individuals are free to choose, without collectivist enforcement.

  2. If a group can successfully make laws subjective or change the meaning of the words in the laws after the fact they can make anyone a criminal, sending strict and terrifying messages to others. The early Ingsoc higher party likely was this successful.
