  3. Wind and solar can produce enough electricity to power the entire planet . Their downside is they require large areas of land, bot for the power plants and the energy storage.

California's renewable produce far more than what they grid require, but unfortunately this supply is intermittent and any unstored energy during peak just went to waste.

  10.  @TruthIsTheNewHate84  Everything you said about battery is factually false and have been rebutted in multiple independent studies. While it is true that the manufacturing of batteries is very polluting, the environmental cost is still far ,far less than constructing a diesels or gasoline vehicles and mining and burning fuels to run it through it lifetime, and that's for new ICE vehicles . Used gas gas vehicle is even worse than new one as not only are they less efficient than new one, but require more maintenance. I hope you no longer repeat this this thoroughly destroyed myth in the future. Your believe have no impact on facts and truth , the truth is we have overwhelming evidence that human activities are the main cause for the current unprecedented rate of climate change . That said I still applaud your effort to reduce impact, though you should switch to a new a car, possibly an electric one, as they are in fact less harmful than a used one.. Or buy used EV instead of those terrible second-hand gas cars. Complaining about China pointless unless you can force their government to change, something you can do in the US. Not that it matter as even China is cleaning up their acts at a greater pace than the US more to do with the growing pollution and impact towards their own country health but still a good step nonetheless.

We do have more than enough lithium to convert all land vehicles to battery electric and then even more osme for the energy reserve for the electric grid with balance to spare , so your statements about lithium supply is already debunked. Your statement about nickel may be correct IF and ONLY IF we used currently the most common type of lithium battery, the NMC , for both vehicle and grid storage. But the reality isn't that at all. LFP batteries is quickly becoming the standard for stationary storage for it durability , safety, longecity and cost and LFP batteries neither have cobalt nor nickel in them, thus eliminating the quandary over such material. LFP batteries are becoming so good that some EV a such as Tesla are even switching to them. That is before we even about batteries that doesn't' even used Lithium in them such as Sodium batteries . While sodium batteries is sub pars for EV because of is relatively low energy density and weight, it is extremely cheap and statics storage doesn't really care about weight. It is estimated that in around decade, sodium may take over from Li-ion batteries for grid storage due to being safer and far cheaper.

  12. @hewdelfewijfe There are still many thing wrong with your estimate. Firstly the 26 million metric ton are just the proven reserve that are ready to extract with our current industry and tech. This number will get bigger over time as industry and technology grows , for example the lithium deposit reserve ten year ago was only around 15 million ton. After all the total amount of Lithium in the Earth crust is estimated at around 88 million ton. Secondly you don't need to have a day worth of storage , at most you need around 12-14 hours storage capacity if you are only using solar when don't shine at night. If you used wind, then you need even fewer storage capacity as win still works at night. That is before counting for other innovating factors like smart grid. Of cause solar and wind or not the only green energy around. Don't forget nuclear Thirdly, there are plenty of other way to store energy. Currently the biggest eclectics storage doesn't even use batteries, they used pumped hydro. That is before we include other storage tech such as pressured gas, thermals storage and hydrogen storage as well many others. Even if we just talking battery tech, then sodium batteries are not the only ones that doesn't' use lithium, cobalt or nickel. EWe have redox flow batteries , Iron air batteries liquid metal batteries and many others. Finally, you said yourself the newest sodium batteries don't use nickel.
