DID YOU JUST ASSUME ITS GENDER!!?
52
Same, I actually had to check if I opened up another tab for Scott Manley video by mistake when I heard his voice.
24
He never promoted BMW in this video , though.

@reportingsjr What you're describing happens during the development/prototyping phase. Once a product (rockets in this case) matures and enter mass production, there is very little tweak that need to be done.

@stevenbaxter8657 {GASP} Did you just confirm that you're a member of the nebulous reptilian overlord species? THE CONSPIRACY THEORIST WERE RIGHT ALL ALONG!!

I have nothing to add to the topic, I just want co corrects one thing: "Any advanced enough technology would appear to be indistinguishable from magic" That quote is referred to as Clarke's Third Law (by Arthur C. Clarke). While I don't doubt that Sagan and may other scientists have said this line before, proper credit should be given to the originator.
5
Now we wait ThiunderF00t's attempt at debunking this.

Saying lithium is a limited resource is as accurate as saying oxygen is a limited resource. Lithium is one of the most abundant resource out there and there is no danger of us running out of it. In fact many analyst warns of a Lithium price crash if too many companies decide to exploit the demand and opened their own production.

+wutzibu Tht busted video was very flawed to say the least. People pointed out that in order for such disaster to happen , a very large segment of the tube need to be suddenly removed, a task that can be don only using heavy machinery or explosives.A hole s few cm wide would not do the trick. The same danger also exist in commercial air travel or even high speed rail travel.

+Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light Yes, people seem to over-exagerate the threat of a hyperloop catastrophe .There are legitimate concern on the viability of the hyperloop atm , this one just isn't one of them.
3
@bosstowndynamics5488 Even if he put 10+ minutes video that get into more on depth on why EV will be the future of consumer transport, people would still criticise that this is BMV promoted " paid propaganda" so that would not change anything regarding the nature of complaint here. If you want in depth coverage of EV than you should go to more dedicated channels like Fully Charged or Transport EVolved .

+InSQUIDious It have been pointed out several times that ThunderF00t 's so called "debunking" video on the hypeloop was '"problematic", to say the very least. He obviously overshoots himself this time.
2
@redoktopus3047 Again, if you watch the video you notice that he didn't promote BMW in this video. You do know that BMW isn't the only company making EV , right ? Companies like Tesla having been doing it for years and everything he said in this video are more applicable to car produce by those companies than by BMW.
2
@dsp4392 It still didn't change the fact that everything he said about BEV in this video is true and aren't just applicable to BMW's offering . Replace them with Tesla Model 3, Hyundai Kona , Nissan Leaf or even Rivian and all his point still stands.
2
@redoktopus3047 And yet despite that this video is still pretty neutral towards BMW while being very positive and informative when it come to BEV in general.
2
@MusicalSkele- I think it's to negate bone and muscle decay as well as ensuring that people that are born and raised in places with vastly different gravity to earth can still live on Earth.
2
@カザフスタンのオレグ Maybe the concluded that the added weight (probably the most important thing ) and complexity for a fan just to that isn't worth it . Lest not forget that mission design (and engineering in general) is all about acceptable compromise.
2
@カザフスタンのオレグ You first.
2
@nighthawk9264 I think you're confusing lithium mining with other thing (like cobalt mining). Even we count that BEV is still less polluting than their ICE counterparts.
2
+Googelplus Sucksys The same reason why we didn'y watch this video on the internet 20 years ago: The technology haven't matured yet or even existed on a consumer level.
1
The whole idea that the Hyperloop would explossively decompress at the slightes puncture is just ridiculous. They're not made from the same material as party balloons.
1
@NoNameAtAll2 You mean " OH MY KAMI "
1
You do know that electric car exist , right?
1
@AppReviewGerman Electric car is already making petrol car nearly obsolete.
1
@reportingsjr Yes, but those changes usually goes in batches that are done at certain interval rather than being a daily and weekly routine. That way you can efficiently bunch up all the improvement in one go rather than stopping your production line for some incremental tweaks.
1
@jeric_synergy8581 You can do some strange manufacturing process in the vacuum of space, like cold welding.
1
WE DON'T NEED MORE SCIENCE PROBLEMS. WE NEED MORE SCIENCE SOLUTIONS!
1
Umm ... they did explain it.
1
Or on an airship.
1
You mean greed by EV companies and electric power generation companies ?
1
It the scourges that you really need to worry about, though.
1
@bosstowndynamics5488 Considering that the OP and most of the complaint here is about the sponsorship from BMW rather than the content of the video, I will reiterate that it wouldn't change much .
1
@odobenus159 I don't think you understand lying through omission mean. So that is your beef? That he didn't mention Tesla? Why the heck would he need to mention Tesla or Rivian or GE or any other entities that produce EV (he barely eve mentions BMW in this video) , name dropping any of them have zero relevance to the points that he makes in this video. This EV tribalism /fanboism is ridiculously stupid beyond belief.
1
@dsp4392 I would've shared that sentiment if not for the fact that even the video in question wasn't straight promotion of BMW and still had some good info for despite its truncated nature.
1
@bosstowndynamics5488 Did you not read the rest of his post in this thread? Most of his complaint was about the BMW "promotion" itself rather the information content of the video, so you're very wrong about the meat of his beef here. Strange, google'/you tube do not notify me on any of your post.
1
@bosstowndynamics5488 Firstly , beside the one phrase in the OP, the OP never once mentioned his problems with the information content of the video even when that one "BMW defender" (hello that was me, nice of you to strawman and misrepresent me) pointed out that Derek wasn't really promoting BMW in the video and was providing valid info about EV in general. So you're wrong here. In f ct there is only one person in the thread that complained about the lack of deeper in content that that person wasn't the OP nor you, no rehash there. Secondly, it is obvious you never bothered watching the video if you conclusion is" Derek is selling BMW without offering any substance". Again all his points doesn't just apply to BMW nor did he imply that BMW was the only EV developer in the market nor did he even promoted BMW in the video.
1
@bosstowndynamics5488 Those point may seem a bit superficial to people like us who are more aware of BEV but to the general public(most who know little of of BEV) theses could be as an eye opener in so many levels. I find it often people overestimated the general audience literacy in the topic they already invested in. Even if you peruse the comment section you would find people will misinformed ideas on BEV. Saying there is lack of substance in this video is disingenuous at best. Nothing disingenuous in pointing out the the OP never once stated the lack of information in this video as he problem with it as opposed to the BMW sponsorship "top 10 reasons to buy a BMW and absolutely no science". Both false to anyone that have watched the video .Saying that the video as is "top 10 reasons to buy a BMW and absolutely no science", now that is disingenuous.
1
@bosstowndynamics5488 Again, saying "there is no science" is dishonest at best when some of his points are based on scientific facts. While the point he raised are rather basic by anyone with an inkling of knowledge on BEV, this is not generally true when it comes to the general public. The more they are exposed to new information about BEV (even if these ware common knowledge to people like us) ,the better. While I do agree that this vid is too short and doesn't really dive in to the detail concerning EV, it still does't negate usefulness of this video to general audience and highlights the falseness of the OP( "top 10 reasons to buy a BMW and absolutely no science") and the general opposition towards a BMW sponsored video on EV.
1
@bosstowndynamics5488 "Ok, quote the science you learnt from the video". Did you fail (again) to read the part where I said the thing he said are common knowledge to people like us? "Just because something is based on science doesn't mean the thing itself is science. Same way that talking about the benefits of today's smartphones compared to smartphones 5 years ago isn't science. It might be interesting, and it's underpinned by science, but the subject itself isn't scientific" Buts saying "there is no science in that video" is still false considering the basic for the point in that video still came from actual science and research that have been done. 'Veritasium's video on Event Horizon didn't focus on the advantages of modern radio telescopes, it focused on the science - the new information about black holes. " Apples to oranges comparison. That is because it wasn't the point of that video. Now if that video title was "10 reason why radio telescope is awesome" and only 5 minutes long on the other hand a ... " This video just listed some features of EVs, many of which aren't exclusive to EVs, done of which are just plain wrong, and didn't once explain why these advantages apply to electric vehicles. " Really ? Never needing to ever go to the gas station again (i-e) is a feature for non EV? Not only that but he did briefly explain on reasoning behind all of his enlargement so saying "didn't once explain why these advantages apply to electric vehicles" i just another thing your get wrong.

Venus cloud cities would be better , though.
1
@cfneal1459 You first.
1
@カザフスタンのオレグ No, they did took that risk into calculation (they do know about the potential dust problems ) and deemed the additional effort and cost into negating that possibility wasn't mission critical. That is one of the reason why the estimated operation time for the rovers was so low . The fact ct that the rovers operated years after the predicted time in which they should became inoperational shows how well designed they're .

Depends on where you live (which affect the amount of sunlight you receive) , the efficiency of the solar cells and your daily energy usage.

Maybe because it's still butthurt over something?

What's the original title?

@sampickett3843 In what way?
