Nah, I've seen people who calls themselves First Amendment Auditors do what Johny Somali did all the time.

@starlitalpha7 Being forced to live decent live for 5 years of face 3 years in prison is decent wake up call. In that time of peace and quite he can reflects on what lead him here and if by 28 years old he still can't reform himself , then his is incorrigible anyway and would only be matter of time before facing real prison sentences. Probation isn't a cake walk, prosecutors will literally drag him to court over thing as simple as jaywalking and traffics violation to determine if he violated the probation term and be sent to prison for real. that is one heck of a Damocles sword. Again, while what he did was vile, he didn't really cause much in term of harm. Isn't letting the punishment fit the crime what justice mean? The problems with US prison is it leave permanent mark that would make it harder for people to fit back into society . Many became more radicalised or more "hard core" due to interactions in prison. That is why the US have the highest incarceration population in the world and yet have one of the worst recidivism rate (repeat offender) in the world , this is waste of taxpayers money and resources . Nordic countries have shown that using the justice system as correctional measure is far more effective at reducing crimes and bad behaviour than just using it as mean or punishments .

@starlitalpha7 I don't think you know what probation is if you think that it's a zero consequence outcome. Probation means that he can't slip up slightest in the 5 years (term of probation generally is longer than the jail sentence) for his deferred 3 years sentence . It mean he can't do this shit at all during that 5 years, one offence and he would be spending 3 year in prison. Again, it would be his first and only warning to get his acts together.

@starlitalpha7 Firstly , you are confusing parole with probation. Parole is when an inmate get early release for good behaviour. Probation is when a person found guilty were given a very strict alternative sentence instead of serving time on the condition that they follow certain stipulation (no drug , alcohol eg) and doesn't commit additional crime during the timeframe of said probation. The biggest difference between their system an the US is their prison was set up to rehabilitates rather than punish. Inmates were givens training, counselling and mental health checks so that they can escape the situation that led them to crime will become productive members of society when they get out . Heck, the cell and prison looks more like hotel or dorms rather than what we imagine as prison. People in third world countries and the poorest in the US don't have homes that good. But what about actual unrepentant criminal and monster like the mass murderer Anders Breivik you may ask? They simply don't lets them out, life sentence is till a thing there. After all the second function of prison in those countries is to protect the public by isolating and removing the dangerous people from society. As for this garbage prankster, I'm okay with with a jail sentence less than a year OR a suspended sentence with several years of probation as his crimes is still minor at this point . I prefer the latter as the US prison system have nasty habit of turning small time crooks into career criminal rather than correcting their behaviour for inmates that spent too much time in the institution .

A 5 -10 years suspended jail and probation would probably be the best outcome. Being sent to prison can really f**K your life and this would be his first and final warning to reflect on what he's done and shape up to be a better person. As disgusting as he is , he still haven't done anything that is truly jail worthy horrible.

@starlitalpha7 That may actually be the best outcome. Bein sent to prison can really f**K your life and this would be his first and final warning to reflect on what he's done and shape up to be a better person.

@ling8956 Hence why probation would be a better option.

The whole "escaping the matrix" shit raise a red flag , but he was probably joking. I can understand why people would snitch him for killing the skunk. Animal cruelty can have that effect on people.

The only way she can "win" in court is if the court decide that she didn't do any damage to the professor because no one in the right mind believed her claim. That was how Elon Musk get away for the Unsworth debacle.
