Pausen Think Told it to who? The neighbour? The local police? A newspaper maybe? I like judging people from my couch, too. She was born into a bad situation and stuck with it. It's too easy to condemn how a young person reacted to an overwhelming tide of autocracy and tyranny, some 70 years ago. It's over now. The war is over. Time to move on.

Being first isn't the significant factor except when the first human stepped foot in the Americas, it wasn't the Vikings either. What makes Columbus unique and important is that his voyage changed the world for all humans, Old World and New, in the most profound ways. The Vikings in Newfoundland didn't change things very much. Columbus set off a flurry of voyages that only increased by the decade. After the Viking voyages to Newfoundland, nothing of significance happened for hundreds of years. Things were never the same after Columbus' voyages.

I would think that the Israelites embellished the story to make their God look like the most powerful God that there is. Facts being mixed with religious explanations and dogma. People have always liked to go with narratives that suit their belief systems.

David Ortiz Your comment makes no sense and I have no idea what it is your trying to say. Try English. What the heck is "firvyour"? Nothing that I've ever ran into. Maybe a little too much New Year's Eve grog??

David Ortiz firvyour---for your info. Okay. It makes sense, in some kind of made up language. Why don't you try using a language we all use and understand? I still don't get the point, though.

I think that they believed that Germanic tribes like the Saxon, Angles, Frisians and Jutes invaded Britain and set off a time of chaos and violence. Apparently, they did go to Britain but it's now felt that it was more of a migration than an invasion. That would have changed the entire narrative from one of chaotic violence to one of a gradual change in the culture.

@StevieRevbo That's what I was taught when I went to school. I was taught, and all the old history books, talked about the invasions of those European mainland tribes and that they took it over through wars. Wars imply chaotic violence. It was those wars that brought about the Dark Ages. https://www.historic-uk.com/HistoryUK/HistoryofBritain/Invaders/ We now realise that it's was more of a migration and that the plundering Saxons idea is wrong. That also means that the narrative of the "plundering Saxons" isn't what's being taught anymore and probably why you haven't heard it, before.

They probably don't and what does it matter? They're still validating this story, using facts that they can back up. Even if they get those details wrong, they're showing that all these events have sources and evidence from outside the Bible. That's amazing news. Unbelievers supporting the Biblical narrative from sources that aren't Biblical. You should be happy about it, instead of being so outraged.

@joycemanieri2304 "INEXCUSABLE"......in capital letters. When my mother used that word on me, in metaphorical capital letters, I knew she was upset and I prepared for the worst. Then " not one of these so called Professors even believed that God exists!!!" First you denigrate their credentials as professors with the "so called" description. Then you finish off the statement with 3, I repeat, THREE, exclamation marks. If that isn't outrage, I'd hate to see you when you're really are upset. Strange how you didn't mention a word about how I said that their evidence, even though not coming from a religious perspective, was good news. You're still implying that this evidence is worthless without faith. In effect, you're shooting the messenger and ignoring what they're saying.
