  1.  Zainjal26  Those 2 little girls can't even tell you what asylum is. They're not true asylum seekers. It's a gambit that's being played so they can get into the US without the process that other, legit immigrants are going through and someone is telling them how to do it. They get here, tell the border agents that they're seeking asylum, even though they don't meet the criteria, get papers and then disappear, for good, into the US. They don't show up for their hearings because they know they don't qualify. So they hide in sanctuary cities and states and overwhelm the system with their presence. Lack of housing, medical care, schools and this idea that some Americans have that money is inexhaustible. This helps no one and if it isn't fixed, will be a big part of a future disaster.

  2.  Richard Russell  His lies? Coronavirus causes a big downturn in the market and there was a rebound. Then Russia and Saudi Arabia get into an oil fight which cause another downturn. These are the Trump lies? I stubbed my toe this morning. If Trump hadn't lied this wouldn't have happened. I'm not a big fan of Trump but letting your hatred of the guy and conservatives in general, isn't exactly helping to make you think in a logical manner. This really has little to do with Trump but with the volatility of world markets. He can't tell them how to think.

You've already decided and it appears that the evidence will never convince you. You'd allow corruption as long as it's from the party or ideology that you like. That attitude in a voter is quite concerning. I'm taking a look into all this Laptop stuff and it's unbelievable.   6.  @jamiepatterson1214  Forest fires are a natural phenomena. There are species that have evolved that even need fires to propagate. Also, if forests are cut to plant crops, there are still plants being grown, which means that it's a trade off. What is more devastating, to the environment, is the loss of good farmland and forest to urban sprawl. Buildings and pavement do NOT add to the natural cycle at all. Growing plants do and that's exactly what's happening when you grow crops.

I knew that Trump was going to win when she turned her nose up and called his supporters a basket of deplorables. The smelling "Walmart" crowds that live in "flyover America". It's that disdain and hatred for ordinary people, and the president that has helped them, that will win him the next election and the Democrats are too filled with their own venom to get it. You're exactly that type of Democrat. You've already shown you disdain for Trump and billionaires. I'm sure you feel the same for his supporters, as well.....and you wonder why this is turning off so many American voters.

  8. @rgsand01 What would you have him do. Send in the army at the first sign of a demonstration? It's up to the local government at first. If they can't handle it, then the state should move in with the National Guard. If that doesn't work and it gets too far out of hand, then the Federal government steps in. It's how the system works and it can't be done in an afternoon. Besides, if the minute he does send in troops, you'll be calling him a tyrant. Your comments are nothing but knee jerk reactions based on a personal hatred for a specific person. No thought or reason involved.

  13.  @tracywarren889  Algebra is important, if only at an entry level, but that's not the problem. They're not even learning Algebra, which is a part of basic math. When I was in school, back in the sixties, the more academically inclined, who were looking at university, would take the academic courses and the more hands on types would take vocational stuff. However, the academics would take at least one vocational course per semester and the vocational types would take at least one course per semester in advanced math, science and English. There were also the science and tech programs, which were advanced science, vocational, math and English. This was for the engineering types. Pure vocational courses were set aside for those who were totally unable to deal with any academics, who found it difficult to read or do basic math, no matter how hard they tried. This allowed me to change from arts and science, a program for academics, to science and technology, a program that suited engineering and vocational interests. High school courses were balanced and most students could find their niche in life. Now, it's all rainbows and gummy bears and really helps no one. Test scores reflect just how bad it has become.

For this to happen, effectively and with long term results, it has to come about, from the bottom, slowly and deliberately, gaining strength because the engine that's running the turn around is a sound and well thought out system of policies. Trump has been president for 3 years. That's not a long time. A sound economy means the opportunity for gains for ALL segments of society. If you try to parse it out, maintain an economy that only affects certain segments, you'll get exactly what we've had for the last 45 years, stagnation for the entire country. You give everyone an equal opportunity to succeed and then people will succeed at the pace that they're capable of. That's freedom. That's all anyone should want. You're looking for equality of outcome. That's not freedom. That's the tyranny of the failed over the successful and operated by those who judge failure by the success of others. Just because someone is rich, doesn't mean you're a failure.

  16. "Buy Canadian". We here it all the time in this country.....but try. The stores are filled with products from China. Our factories are closing but the companies that own them still exist. They're just not operating here anymore except to sell their cheaper products. I worked for one of the biggest shoe manufacturers in the world, a Canadian company, and they no longer make shoes here. Their factory is now being renovated into a retirement home. They're still huge in 3rd world countries, though but their corporate structure is so that you don't know what products are theirs and which isn't. Who did this "free trade" benefit? It definitely wasn't the blue collar workers and the middle class. It was the corporate leaders, the big investors who opened factories in 3rd world countries to take advantage of cheap labour and then sell those products here and strangle out the local small companies. Incredibly, those people who say that they support socialism and the left aren't really helping the working class at all. They're supporting the elites. Trump is right. MAGA is just a slogan, hyperbole that describes a greater idea. The idea that the ordinary American does have a role in the country and that they're NOT just a bunch of hillbillies and deplorables. I'd like to see that same attitude come to Canada. We're all important, not just the corporate elites.

  21.  Real Christian.  For years, all we ever heard was "shop American" and the response was "we can't. Everything says made in China". Trump tries to fix it and you STILL complain. The farmers are getting help until a new and fairer trade deal is struck with the Chinese. When that happens, and it will, the farmers will have a secure market in China and they'll go back to work. However, if you LIKE our stores filled with Chinese products, you can ensure that this happens by buying only Chinese made products. I understand that you don't like Trump, but when you're in a trade war, there will be hardship. If the war is resolved and the farmers are STILL on welfare, then you have a complaint that has merit. Right now it's just a lot of hot air. Trump is helping those affected negatively by the restructuring of the trade deal with China. China wants what American farmers can produce so this isn't permanent.

  24. No matter how we try to stop it, it'll be a mess. The only way out, without considerable damage, is through the political process. Trump was showing us how and he was using the Reagan/Kennedy ideas of less government and less government spending. However, the Socialist Democrats, since they couldn't run on a solid economic platform, had only one option. Completely smear and denigrate Trump and the Republicans and they did a masterful job of it. However, people are seeing through it and the Dems are getting scared. That's why they've really ramped up the "Fascist" rhetoric. We really don't want real Civil Strife. The American Civil War was a disaster and it was the Democrats that refused to negotiate the end of that era and fired on Fort Sumter. They're doing it again, hoping to get rid of any and all opposition.

  27.  @sumisell  Actually, Trump lowered personal income taxes for everyone and tried to cut government spending. Biden is doing the exact opposite and inflation has risen to the highest in 40 years. The economy is in terrible shape. I'm not a big investor but my meagre investment portfolio is worth 15% less today than what it was a year and a half ago. I'm afraid to even check it sometimes. Your 401K is being hit hard, as well. But, go ahead, vote against businesses making money. That's a GREAT strategy. If they don't make money, they're forced to raise prices. That's inflationary. If the prices get too high, people will stop buying and the business will go belly up. That means people out of jobs and MORE taxes, because there will be fewer people and businesses paying taxes. I can't believe that people can't understand that. SMH.

  36. The wall is better than fences and barriers. The wall is a brand new Audi while the current fences and barriers are rusted out old Chevies. You may be satisfied with the old rust bucket but eventually you need to upgrade. More old Chevies aren't an upgrade. Is it ego to want to fulfil an election promise, the promise that was the centre point of his election campaign? I always thought that it was a good thing to do everything possible to come good on a promise. I guess it's not, according to you. I'll bet if it has Hillary trying to make good on an election promise, you'd call it integrity. Your position isn't about the wall, at all. You don't like Trump and his failing to keep an election promise is a good thing, no matter what that promise is. It's a knee jerk reaction and then you go looking for reasons that justify why it's okay to have those reactions. If fences or barriers have been an integral part of border security, then an even better barrier should be more effective. He made a promise of building an effective wall between the two countries that would stem the number of future illegal immigrants. He's doing everything he can to keep that promise and he's being opposed, tooth and nail, by the Democrats, not because it's a bad idea, but because they don't like the idea of him keeping a big election promise. Also, the idea that he was going to get the Mexicans to pay for that wall was just election rhetoric and no one took him seriously...at least non of his supporters did. They knew it was just tongue in cheek election banter of a windbag. It's like promising my wife a new car and saying that YOU, PeacockPoverty, was going to pay for it. She'd know that it was nonsense but she'd still expect that car. The point is this. Would an 15 foot high wall be more effective than the fence that is in place now? Having grown up on a farm and climbed over fences most of my life, I know for a fact that it is. Not even a maybe about it. The only problem that the Democrats have with it is that it's Trump's election promise. Nothing else. It's why they call the wall immoral, even though they supported a barrier 5 years ago. It's why Pelosi wouldn't meet with the "Angel Moms". That would be an admission that there were criminal elements crossing the wall, as well. It's why Democrats are tacitly supporting sanctuary cities, something that the Obama government would NEVER have accepted 5 years ago. It's all about derailing Trump. It's never been about what's right or effective. They're determined that Trump cannot succeed in the one thing that is obviously concrete and real. His other programs, like the initiative to set up opportunity zones or to help women succeed in business in 3rd world countries are abstract and can be ignored. A wall can be pointed at and its existence could not be denied. That's why they oppose it. A concrete reminder that Trump came good on a promise cannot be allowed....EVER.

However, if a lot of his district is impassable due to terrain, it would also appear that these landowners don't have the hundreds of migrants crossing their land all the time. The natural barrier is stopping them so their argument makes sense, especially since they're the ones that would give up the land to put the unnecessary part of the wall up. I know that for the simple reason that the MAGA hats, the ones carrying the Trump election slogan, will set people off in a rage. A bunch of Catholic kids wearing them, invoked the rage of a bunch of Black Israelites and then the nation and that story was spun viciously out of control. Why? It's those hats and their link to Trump. People have even admitted it to be true. When Whoopi Goldberg asked why they would fall prey to these types of stories, Joy Behar replied "because we're so desperate to get rid of Trump".....and she's right. The Democrats, especially the MSM, has been spinning so many stories in an effort to denigrate Trump, that some people aren't trusting them anymore and their ratings have been falling. Democrat opposition to Trump has become a series of knee jerk reactions. I don't see why the wall issue would be any different.

  39.  @PeacockPoverty  If he didn't start there, then he must have changed and there has to be a reason for it. The reason was simply this. He listened to those who knew the most about the subject. Instead of a solid wall, border agents told him it would be better to have a wall they could see through and explained why. So now, you can see through the wall. He's no longer concerned with a sea to sea wall because he was told and understood that there are areas that the wall would be redundant due to hostile terrain. So, like you say, he's adapted to new information. This doesn't mean he's not committed to building a wall or the it's a totally bad idea. It means he listens and will adapt his thinking and is willing to negotiate if others will negotiate with him. However, there is no negotiating for the wall from the Democrats. "Not one dollar" from Pelosi. She has dug in her heels and so has Trump. Trump because it'a a campaign promise and Pelosi because.......reasons.

Also, just because Trump wants to take credit for the wall, isn't proof that it shouldn't be built, either. Why would anyone take credit for a something that wasn't a good thing. Then you say that he'll take credit for parts of the wall he didn't build. So then, who built those parts of the wall? Could it be the Democrats who approved of it 5 years ago and even bragged of it as an accomplishment? Okay...he shouldn't take credit for it. Fine.....but it's still a good idea to build it. To say that you don't want Trump to build it so he can't brag he did it, isn't very mature either and it's quite self serving. I'm talking about the wall and I believe I'm bring up some good points on why the wall should be built. That has nothing to do with Trump. I don't think a fence or the barriers in place today are good enough. It should be a more intimidating barrier, like the ones that are being erected right now. Higher and a lot more difficult to climb. Ones that the very young, the old, the infirm, those that are overweight or out of shape could never climb over. A wall that would take a major effort to scale and would only be possible for the most able of individuals. Ones that would hold up the migrant long enough for the border patrol to detect and stop them. The fences are there and they were better than nothing. However, the wall being built now is better than the fence or the barriers built in the past. If they're going to put up a fence to stop it, why not do it right and put up an even better apparatus to do the job? All "Trumps" wall amounts to is a better version of the fence already there. This isn't about Trump although that's what you've reduced it to.....just like a lot of the Democrat politicians. It's about having the best possible deterrent for the migrants. A fence isn't good enough. However, you'll never see that because.....Trump lies. That's all you can see. How myopic.

As for the ocelots, that may have an impact although most of the ocelots in Texas are in the Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge on the coast and are too far away to migrate to Mexico. There are other pockets along the border and you're right about those. As for the butterflies, they have a unique capability. They know how to fly. I'm thousands of miles from Mexico and the Monarch is common around here and has to migrate to all the way to Mexico. Apparently they can do it and they have to cross the Mississippi River. It's miles across. A wall would appear to be a puny deterrent to that. But yes, it would impact some wildlife. How much is hard to say. It's one of those cost benefits analysis that must be made. However, the growth of major cities has had a much greater impact on wildlife that any wall could ever have. Phoenix, Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, just to name a few, and all the suburban areas involved have disrupted wildlife habitat exponentially more than a wall would. The diversion of water to California from the Colorado has had a major impact on the environment along that river. Most of the illegal immigrants are going to California, so more water will be needed to supply them. So it takes from one to add to another. Nothing that we do as modern humans doesn't have its cost. Emptying Lake Mead to supply a growing California, partially due to added illegals, is a very high cost as well. A decent consideration but not a deal breaker. Especially when you include the word "could". "Could" isn't a word used to describe a definitive problem.

  50. Immigration, based on skills, is good for the economy. A country that lacks the high end skills will end up spinning it's well in the private sector.
