Well duh.....it was the government that ordered the trees all cut in the first place. They might better fix it. It was their totalitarian system that caused it and seems to be effective at trying to fix it, as well. The US government would never order their citizens to cut down all the trees. Like you said, both parties would fight over it into the far distant future.

If the trees were originally cut on the orders of Chairman Mao, how can you call them climate refugees. Had the trees been harvested properly, maybe the temperatures wouldn't have risen as much and most of these people would still be in their original homes. Not doubting climate issues but Mao is a big part of the problem they're facing now. If it isn't, why are they trying to replant the trees?

"You just don't know and you're ignorant and I know this to be true but I can't be bothered to explain it to you because you won't believe it, anyway". See how pointless that was?

@chfgbp6098 There is some truth to that. However, it is a fact that Mao accelerated the process when he ordered the cutting of the trees to fuel his plans for the Chinese economy. Of course, those trees may have been cut, anyway, in the meantime but we have no way of knowing that. We do know that Mao was directly responsible for the cutting of a lot of those trees and that did speed up the process of desertification.
