@Kwildcat13 You could look at it that way. However, it was also a time for children to learn how to get along with each other, a time of socialisation. That's something that all people have to learn as they grow into adulthood. Let's take a time before school. What did the 4 and 5 year old kids do back then? They played with one another. Dad had dad things to do, hunt for food, protect the group or tribe and mom had to care for the smaller ones, the babies and prepare good homes and environments for the family. While their parents were taking care of the things necessary for a good community, the kids were learning to live with another, how to cooperate while playing, in practice to when they grew up and they'd have to cooperate in order to live. That's what our education system should be doing when they're at the kindergarten stage of life. Not forcing them to sit quietly and direct every socialising moment of the kid's lives. It should be a time of exploration for the kids, their first step to adulthood.

@thekingsdaughter4233 I couldn't agree more. I grew up on a small farm with 6 siblings. We started doing small things to help on the farm at a very young age. Yet, we were allowed a lot of freedom to play and do the things that we wanted, even needed, to do. We learned independence. The only thing that hampered our freedom was if we did something that was overtly wrong or harmful. Then we would "catch" it. Yet, most of those rules weren't forced on us. We learned them, sometimes the hard way. Years later, I started working at a paper mill. I was in my mid-fifties. About 6 months into the job, a guy who'd been there for years, asked me if I was an old farm boy. I hadn't lived on the farm since I was 19. I asked him why he would ask that question. He said this..."Just by the way that you do things." All those years later, that childhood was still being reflected in a positive way. It's a shame that kids are unable to have that kind of childhood anymore.

@frododododo But cavemen are as human as you and I are. Basic needs are still the same. When young, we need the basics. Food, drink, shelter, clothes and love. As we grow, we have expanded needs, like socialisation and more independence. As growth moves along, we start to learn the things we'll need as adults to survive. Education, without socialisation, makes for poorly functioning adults.
