Then why do we have elections. YES....the US is a Constitutional Republic. That means that the Constitution comes first. It also means that we have representatives, that we elect, using the democratic process, that we send to represent us to enact policies and laws. They do this under the auspices of the Constitution. We are a democracy that can be over ruled by the Constitution, which should not be violated. We can't have just one of them. It has to both or we're neither. Take away the democratic process and the Constitutional Republic is gone. Take away the Constitution and we have no guarantee of a voice, through the democratic process, in how our country is run. That makes us no different than a dictatorship or the monarchy that the US fought a war to escape from.
