One of the worst things that could happen to any country is to raise generations of uneducated citizens because their parents didn't have the resources to pay for it. The poorest countries, in the world, are also the most uneducated. We owe our affluent lifestyles to the policy of offering an education to ALL of our citizens. Having said that, as citizens, we have the right to take part in the education process. This should never be state mandated or be a part of an education curriculum that is forwarded, by the state, for the state. It's for the betterment of us all as individuals and not to create lackeys of the state. Today's politicians and educators have forgotten that.
