Bore off. We were talking about Joe McCarthy. Was he not obsessed with communists or not? How can you even discuss McCarthyism without mentioning Communism? It seems that you're the one that brainwashed to react to the word "Communist", in an irrational manner, no matter what the context it's being used in. And yes, communism is a threat. There isn't a single Communist country in history that has flourished and the people weren't kept in a state of oppression. There is no Communist success story.

@LifeLifemoreAbundantly He was right about a communist threat. He was WRONG about how he went at it. He turned it into a witch hunt and followed a policy that said that the accusation is the proof of guilt. No different than what they did to Judge Kavanaugh.

@howie6992 They HATE him in DC. He's been tearing apart the bureaucracy and all the cronyism that goes with it and they hate him for it. DC is a Democratic, left wing stronghold. If you're a Republican, DC is a lonely place to live. Trump's base is the regular, middle American and his support has been getting stronger in that demographic because he's standing up to the elitists and they're snobbish attitudes. Bill Maher typifies their attitude. "Middle America is jealous of us. They want to be us". This is from Maher. They think that regular Americans are a bunch of uneducated hillbillies and, according to Hillary, a DC elitist herself, a "basket of deplorables". Until this Covid crisis, normal Americans were finally doing better. Now it's the Democrat governors that are the ones threatening ordinary Americans who only want to go back to work.....the kind of work the DC elitist find undignified and menial.

@LifeLifemoreAbundantly McCarthy went after people who attended Socialist meetings when they were in college back in the thirties, just out of curiosities. Just to be questioned was enough to get you fired and blacklisted. Anyone who was in the merchant marine or who was unloading ships could be investigated and over 3000 longshoremen and seamen lost their jobs due to his unlawful investigations. People were imprisoned and later released because their rights had been infringed and evidence was proved either false of manipulated. The man operated in the same manner as Joseph Stalin. The reason we oppose Communism is partly because of the idea of centralised government and that if you question the edicts of the state, you must be the enemy. In Communism there is only one way to think or believe. Our free system resists that idea and as long as we don't infringe upon the rights of others, we can act and believe as we please, even if we find it repugnant and potentially damaging. We should NEVER have arrests made on flimsy charges and our tactics should NEVER be comparable to the tactics of Stalin. If we're going to act like him, we may as well BE communists. We have a system of law that places the individual as the sovereign entity....NOT the state. McCarthy took the power as the representative of the state and ignored the sovereignty of the individual. That's the communist and authoritarian way. It's NOT what we value in the west. That doesn't mean we shouldn't fight against Communism because we should. We should fight it because we want to be better than they are. McCarthy wasn't that. He was the flip side of Stalin. Just as ruthless and he could care less about the rights of the individual.
