@doodles9358 Except this isn't another country. This is a city in the United States and not that far away are beautifully cared for streets and nice homes. Why he says that the Democrats are the problem is because they are continuously raising taxes to help the poor. They are continuously telling people that if they vote Republican that their lives will get worse and that they're the only ones that care about them. Yet, nothing EVER changes, even though hundreds of millions of tax dollars are earmarked to clean it up....but it never does get to the problem areas. If things do start to look better, the Democrats start screaming "gentrification" and vilifying those who try to make things better. People don't have to live that way but the Democrats won't tell them that. They encourage the idea that there's no way out and it's the fault of the Capitalist system and the Republicans. So, the locals don't go to work or vote for those who they think are at fault. They keep voting Democrat and nothing EVER changes. It's horrific.

HenryDavidT Narrow streets don't have to mean dirty and they're going to be let go. Streets in Europe are narrow and they're still clean. It's a community effort and those at the top aren't showing that they care. Also, I live in a small, apartment and I keep it clean, as do my neighbours. We still have standards of living and a pride in living well. What it takes is hard work and every time I say something like that, people get upset with me. I'd like to see a place clean up and improve without anyone working to do it. It's due to a poor attitude and poor work ethic. That's why the community lives like this. There's no other reason.

@doodles9358 Another thing that has to go are the unions. They're safe havens for the incompetent and the lazy. As long as unions exist, in the public sector, in these cities, nothing will improve. The unions will block every effort made.

@doodles9358 It's incompetence partnered with corruption. If city council actually cared about these places, things would change. Pick up the garbage, increase police presence (something that the left hates), start a program of building improvements, start to require standards of merit in city schools including showing ways on how the young CAN work for better lives and firing those teachers who don't care. This is just a start and it won't be easy. Right now, city council is taking the easy route. They're ignoring it and blaming everyone else. It's my experience that if you're going to wait for someone else to do it, you'll be waiting a long time and it's been a long time in these neighbourhoods.
