@daieast6305 Just goes to show what you know. This was about the rich spice and silk trade in India and the far east. The Arabs had the overland trade routes cut off and were charging exorbitant prices for those products and Portugal thought they could sail around Africa and get it for themselves. Columbus thought that if he sailed west, he could sail directly to the East Indies or the Spice Islands. He didn't know that their were 2 continents in between. To the day he died, he thought he was off the coast of eastern Asia.
