  1. The reason that students are traumatised is because they're being taught history in a framework that encourages traumatisation. If it's taught in a balanced fashion, in a way that not only glorifies the good things in history but shows how we progressed in our understanding of how the bad things in history developed. Dividing history into good guys/bad guys doesn't shed insights on the nuance of human nature or how complex human personalities are. Today, our history is viewed and taught through the lens of vilification with no sense of understanding or compassion. That is what is taught to our children and they have become prey to this sense of superior virtue that is being outlined to them by our educators. In many ways, our teachers have become our high priests, setting our standards of morality and virtue. Our schools have become the new "church" and the students are reacting just like any good Christian would have 200 years ago....with moral outrage and indignation. Do we really want that from our education system? A new form of religious fervour.
