@stefano_etrusco It's always amazed me why people get upset with the US when they object to countries nationalising the oil companies. Most of those companies are American oil companies that are held by American shareholders. If you're an American, that would likely include YOU. If you have a pension plan, you may own shares in those oil companies. If you have a bank account that has any money in it, the bank might well be using it to invest in them. It's how they make their money and how you're able to make interest on that money in the bank. Those countries are stealing from YOU and you don't even realise it. That's why the US objects and it should. If they were starting a national oil company that would buy out and assets that an American company might have in their country, that would be one thing but to just take it over, that's theft.

@chicongodetraq1946 Allowing the politically illiterate to vote may be a bad idea but so is every other system of government that has ever existed. However, America is not a full democracy. It's a Constitutional Republic. This means that people are restricted in what they can vote for, which is basically what you do when you vote. You can't vote against the basic law of the land. Basic human rights must always be protected. That's the beauty of the American system. It's also flawed, because people can still ignore those rights, but it's easily the best system that's ever been devised. There aren't many options in trying to coerce another nation to act responsibly and with integrity. You could declare war but that's a little extreme. You can use covert tactics, like in Iran, but that leads to unethical practices. There are sanctions or just a refusal to deal with them, anymore, which could hurt them in the long run. Basically though, it's like trying to deal with the average person. You'd like your neighbour to be a nice guy but you can't force him to be likeable. Sometimes you're just stuck with what you've got.

@chicongodetraq1946 Because international business is good for everyone involved...that's why. As long as it's done fairly and honestly. The problem is that people are terribly flawed and corruption is the default. It takes a great deal of vigilance, integrity and determination to live one's life in an honest manner. That's why the best governments aren't ruled by people but by a code of ethics, like the American Constitution. The main job of a government is to maintain the integrity of the national code of ethics or conduct. That's it, first and foremost. That's why nationalisation is nothing but pure theft.

I'll bet that the proceeds from the sale of that book goes straight into her bank account. Why don't we loot that account in the name of social justice?

@ad-yh3vw It's time to stop all government funding to the NPR network. It's crazy to fund a network that advocates against the Constitution and human rights.
