It's NOT negligence, Tim. She made a mistake. It was a high pressure situation and she was under stress. Her timbre of her voice, during the confrontation, shows how much pressure she was under. Negligence strongly implies that she didn't care enough to do her job properly. This isn't the case, at all. Not all mistakes are negligence. Sometimes they're just mistakes. We all do them. We drop things, put them in the wrong drawer, I've poured juice into a bowl of oatmeal.....that doesn't mean I'm negligent or that I don't care. It's a mistake. You can't legislate mistakes away. You can mitigate them away through training but you'll NEVER eliminate them. We ask these people to do the dangerous jobs so that we don't have to and then we criminalise and villainize them when they make mistakes. Good luck recruiting new recruits to do those jobs. It'll end up being us who will have to deal with keeping the peace and we're not going to do very good job of it. Our cities will be over run with roving gangs of thugs and life in those cities will become unlivable.
