That's where the difference between irrational and rational fear exhibits itself. Rational fear is conducive to adaptation. Irrational fear is crippling and induces stagnation.

We have a need for rational fear. To see our fear and understand why it exists, in context, is part of the mindset that helps to solve the issue that causes the fear. Irrational fear is the relative of panic. It lacks thought or adaptability and forces retreat and stagnation. It's important to have fear as a survival tactic but just as important to control that fear so we're not mired in paralysis.
