You took the request right out of my mind Sal. Much appreciated. You pre-empted most of us with this very timely presentation!

Was it just me or did the pilot Ken Sears seem on the verge of getting emotional (i.e.holding back tears). He had a real situation on his hands and he came out ok in the end. Saved the ship & the basin. That "close call" aspect of it must be a hard thing to handle & deal with, even afterwards.

Cheers Sal, good timing with the video drop, it's early in the evening here in Ukraine and when you mentioned the Bab-el-Mandeb and didn't have a drink, I had one for you and one for me (it was the hard stuff too). 🥛

11th of November, wasn't that when the Edmund Fitzgerald sunk in 1975 ? Remember the Big Fitz! Never forget.

It has to be the weirdest contraption I have ever seen in shipping. I have nothing to do with sailing or the navy, I just take an interest in powerful machines (am into train spotting and aerospace too). I also am glad it was saved, even if just for the weirdness of it! Students in loud Hawaiian shirts, thing of beauty Sal!

Great rundown Sal, much appreciated. I've lived in Ukraine a decade (Ukrainian wife) and I only found out about your chan when Ward Carroll suggested his viewers sub to yours. Been a faithful viewer ever since. I'm mostly an aerospace fan, but ships (and trains) also interest me greatly. Engineering marvels that move a lot of tonnage. I'll give you some help with "Novorossiysk" - you pronounced it "Novo-risk" - no big deal, I'll give you some phonetics to improve that - NOR--VOR-ROW-SISK - say that quickly and you'll be close enough! 😉👍

A third Russian tanker has broken up in the Black Sea. "Beware when the Black witch of December comes calling!". Need to do a cover of that Gordon Lightfoot song about the Big Fitz with some changed lyrics for the Black Sea. - "The big sea it is said, never gives up its dead when the Black witch of December comes calling....". 🎸🚢

@davidgoodnow269 Those songs are ok but kinda "meh" too. Hang 'Em High off Diver Down album is maybe my second fave track.

@wgowshipping YW Sal! oh, one clarification with the phonetics - row as in ROWing boat, not to be confused with an argument or "row" (like owl) as the Brits say it.

Thanks for the comprehensive report Sal, much appreciated. That strike was way out of line, not cool. Not a valid military target. But if the white house approves us to use ATACM's (and maybe even JASSM's) to strike into Russia, the ships in the Caspian Sea bringing Iranian ballistic missiles to Russia to be used against us here, would totally be valid and important targets imho. Look I know this involves putting mariners in jeopardy, but, they're not working for humanitarian loads like grain in this case. May they supposrt the war like lots of Russians maybe they don't. WHat's your thoughts on this Sal ? Maybe the Caspian Sea's out of range anyway, I am not sure.

@gandydancer9710 If it was sunk after taking on the grain going home to Egypt it's an act of war against Egypt too and maybe even us. Sal can adjudicate maybe in a future show, who knows. Anyway, the gas transit contracts expire at the end of this year in December with GAZPROM and will NOT be renewed by Kyiv. Ironically, the EU is twisting our arms to renew, because land locked countries like Hungary and Slovakia (who happen to have pro-Putin boot lickers as leaders), without sea ports for large LNG tankers get exemptions. This is also why the BS story by German mass media (another country full of Putin boot lickers), that we blew up Nord Stream II is compete & utter nonsense. We could just shut off the pipes in Ukraine, much easier, But hardly anyone is aware of the gas transit agreements that expire end of this year.

Heya Sal, at the start of that clip they seem to be speaking English, but when they start shooting after they hit the blow fish, it's definitely Russian "-Swear word-, all normal, all normal, we shot it and we exploded it" roughly translated, they are speaking Russian but with a Ukrainian accent IMHO, so it's Ukrainians who are speaking Russian. It makes sense here in Ukraine that they would be Russian speakers, as the southern coastline port cities like Odessa where the crews might be from are mostly Russian speaking cities. But htey definitely don't want to be part of Russia!

Panama is my favourite Van Halen track by far too Sal. Shame the rights to use it are off the scale.

@noahway13 Thanks, I didn't get what "Curst" was (I live in Ukraine) bit I thought their comment was very good none the less., Cursed, yes, hahaha

Indeed, Mr Zeihan, does not always get it right, a great run down of the stuff in your wheelhouse (pun intended!). I live in Ukraine and sometimes when Peter talks about this part of the world he gets it wrong too. One classic example, is he confuses the second last Soviet Leader (before Gorbachev) Konstantin Chernenko with one of the former Prime Ministers of Russia Viktor Chernomyrdin (who was also a Soviet Gas Minister before the USSR collapsed). The surname's CHERNenko and CHERNomyrdin, start with the same prefix, and thus might confusingly sound the same. But anyway Sal, just one example in my wheelhouse" of knowledge inthe former Soviet Union where I can call Peter out for a mistake. I like watching him too, he is interesting none the less, but not perfect in the wide range of geopolitical stuff he tries to cover. Not an easy thing to do!

I suppose this was the MSC Michigan VII's Star Wars Luke Skywalker moment at the battle of Yavin in the first movie when they made their run down the Death Star trench and Luke, as flight lead in the X-Wing 3-ship formation says "WE'RE GOING IN FULL THROTTLE"!!

After watching this video Sal something jumped out at me that really put it into perspective how had the leave conditions are for the MSC mariners. I've lived in Ukraine for a. decade (Ukrainian wife) and something came to mind regarding the Soviet days. My wife's a teacher and she's on vacation now as it's the summer break here and I asked her, "In the Soviet days did the communists pay teachers for leave during the long summer vacation" and she said "Yes!". So how is that for a crazy difference, even the Soviet communists at least paid for leave but the MSC, nope! Maybe that might be a good thing to put to them when advocating for leave pay for MSC mariners Sal - "Hey man, the Soviet's paid for leave but you guys can't! Comon, let's get real here!" 💰🛳🚢💰
