  1. Professor, you need to differentiate between "Russia lost 27 million" and "The Soviet Union lost 27 million. It's like saying today "The Russians launched Sputnik" - no they did not, "The Soviets launched Sputnik" - why is this important ? The Cheif Designer & mastermind of the Soviet space "firsts", S.P. Korolyov, was Ukrainian. "Soviet" gives credit to the other nationalities, "Russia" does not. e.g. Russia did not lose 27 million in WW2, the Soviets did". I know what you are trying to do, which is illustrate how cheap life always has been and will be to Russia or Soviet Russia - they are all a continuation of " Russian Empire".
