Very interesting that HR brings up that Moody Blues album and the inner man and AI and DeCasrtes. It reminded me straight away of the cult classic sci-fi movie "Dark Star" written by rookie John Carpenter of"The Thing" fame and Dan O'Bannon of "Alien" fame. This was not a mostly happy truimphpalist sci-fi movie like Star Wars or Star Trek, it was very dark in the thematic overtones and script. Anyway, at the end of the movie one of the astronauts tries to use Cartesian logic to get the AI planet destroyer bomb to defuse and go back into the bomb bay, after it has been activated but because of a malfunction is stuck before it launches. It turns that the astronaut finally convinces the bomb to go back into the bomb bay and think about it, using the aforementioned Cartesian logic about "how do you know what's actuallly real and really actual" so the bomb accepts, but then after a while the bomb, having learned Cartesian doubt, trusts only itself. It is convinced that only it exists, and that its sole purpose in life is to explode, and it does so after quoting Genesis - "Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light." and then BOOM!

I didn't know Niall was a gunners fan! COYG! Anyway, I have heard the great Lt. Gen. Ben Hodges disagree with the "Cold War v2" thesis. Back in the day the Cold War seemed to encompass h entire world, Soviet-bloc, NATO/US allies & non-aligned nations- of which in my ancestral home of Yugoslavia, Tito was a founding member after he broke with Stalin in 1948 and successfully left the Soviet-bloc (unlike Hungary 1956 & Czechoslovakia 1968). imho the v2 Cold war seems far less pronounced, it depends on the geopolitical area. China, yes, that's a cold war. Russia,, well for us here in Ukraine, it's not "cold". It has also gone way beyond "cold" for hte rest of Europe I think. Would it be asking too much to get the great General Hodges on to discuss or debate this with Niall and the panel ?
