your dad did the right thing. what kind of life his newlywed child's family will be having after they've paid such heavy expenses and even involved in debts? if the girl's parents are poor or have a son, there is a high chance that they will keep the bride price for themselves. you're lucky to met or be in that family.

@kieragard on the bright side at least one of them are still functioning. research statistic show that children grown in single-father household perform way better than single-mother household so you're still lucky that your dad is the one functioning instead of your mom. treat your dad better, you'll never know what he has endured from your crazy mom for your sake when they're together.

@m_m_m_m_m_m_m_m_m_m_m i'm totally against this idea since it has already become the problem for so long and there are no good system to control over it for more than millenniums. they should remove this broken idea for now and can come back after they've develop a better system for it. continue keeping it around will only do harm more than good and waiting for it to improve by itself without any strict actions taken will take forever to change.

another simp that agree to ridiculous bride price and tried to borrow money from others for his wedding. i will start respecting china men if majority of them start to handle their own wedding by themselves without involving and causing his whole family fall into debts for his sake. china's women and her parents are daylight robbers that dare to request such high bride price while knowing their daughters aren't even virgins. plenty of modern women are not traditional themselves but still expecting traditional treatment is delusional.
