He sells out the oil rights to western oil companies. UK & USA didn't like that they nationalized their oil and had a socialist as their legally elected leader. The shah rules the country with a brutal hand, creating the breeding ground for religious extremists like the Ayatollah who ousts the shah, and negotiates with Reagan's people about NOT releasing the hostages until Reagan becomes president. For that, money exchanges hands. Then Reagan deals with Saddam and gives him weapons to attack Iran, and kill Kurds. He has been sanctified by republicans. The same republicans who has vilified Carter for 30 years. Carter never went to war. And never committed treason to win an election. And he was about to legalize weed. Reagan went to war on his own people with the unconstitutional "War on Drugs"...
