***** I was there 24 years ago. I might return on the 25th day on my last journey there.
I'm not making any excuses for either the Brits, Americans nor Christianity. Hell! I'm none of the above!. I'm from that cold country north of Europe who thinks that the world revolves around ski sports a few weeks every winter. I still find that more tempting than living in ice cold houses in Ireland, freezing half to death, munching bad chips, and worse curry.
But it astonishes me that one supposedly from an ancient culture with Buddhism and Hinduism as one the predominant religions of India (besides Sikhism, Jainism, Baha'i, and different versions of Islam have so little self insight?
Can you take honest criticism that bad that you have to immediately point fingers, and then claim "you have no right to judge us",,,
Of course not! And we shall also ignore the fact that Gandhi was assassinated by a Hindu Nationalist, hellbent on bad Karma!
And then all hell broke lose.
Reminds me about the aftermaths of the deaths of other do gooders in history, with their heirs carrying loads of false pride, easily hurt feelings, and absolutely no sign of introspection.

Tangerine Farmer What I find astonishing, is that I find many Muslims I have befriended to be more tolerant to differences in opinions than your average creationist from the Bible Belt. The American Taliban.
And it's the two latter I am targeting. However, taking down the insanity in religion in general, that is the main goal.
15 years ago, I wrote for a newspaper online magazine called Fundamental in one of Norway's largest commmercial newspapers. My editor was a female, Pakistani born comedian. The first one of such in Norway.
I used to slam fundies, nationalists, racists, and corrupt politicians almost on a weekly basis. And I got paid for it. Later, she got death threats from both nationalists as well as Islamic fundies due to her outspokenness.
That's because of her status as a celebrity.
I just got tons of hate mail. In which I laughed at out loud when reading them.
Now, in less than than two years, you might find me in Srinagar, visiting the tomb of Isa (the historical Jesus?), having some temple hashish or some other local specialty :-)
My dream is to retire in a ripe age on a beach in Goa someday. Corrupting western MILFs and their hot daughers...

Tangerine Farmer It must have been. After the website got sold, and I didn't feel like writing there anymore, and wanted to write my own stories, Shabana Rehman eventually had to flee abroad.

I went abroad because I had a writers block, and was offered a job in Belfast. 11 years later, I'm back, after been working in 5 countries, a broken engagement, and having laughs at fundies on the internet while trying to heal a bad stomach.
Religion and nationalism makes you believe in batshit crazy things. Blind faith in an ideology that is warped, is a dangerous mindset.
The first time I was in India, I met some fellas in our hotel in New Delhi who told me the legend of the tomb of Jesus. They were both from Kashmir, and was on their way home after studying law in USA.
This made me really question the legitimacy the whole of Christianity. A cult which mythology is stolen, and Romanized.
The influence from my few friends at high school and their evangelism was about to rub off, and new insights came in India less than two years later. Coming from an Atheist home, it was an interesting experience. And I learned plenty of the Bible Belt mindset. India was a complete different thing.
Having spiritual experiences in ancient Buddhist and Jain temples, long discussions late into the night about religion with hotel owners while everybody else was asleep.
These discussions was rewarding, in comparison to the snake oil that bible wankers are trying to sell.
This year, I will go to Morocco as soon as my stomach can take another journey, and next year to India for 2 months.
That's how one fights ignorance. By travelling. Reading. Challenging the beliefs one is brought up on.
