***** I've been dealing with romas myself lately.I'm a writer. I know about the progressive moves that France made. But there was also a time when France regressed after Napoleon. I'm thinking about the Dreyfus case in the 1890's. I wasn't attacking you for being French. I was attacking your government. Like I attack my own. I don't view history as only right and wrong, but grey areas and skeletons in the closet. I attack every government that has flaws. No exception! Like I said, I love France. Some of my favorite writers are French. Some of them not very politically correct, but I don't care. I also have noticed the difference between the French, English and Irish literature. And it fascinates me. I also recognize things that are not so great bout a culture and government a as well. Very few of my Greek friends would be offended if I bashed their government and their Golden Dawn. Very few Irish I have met would take it personally if I called their government a bunch of wankers. (Though, I am a huge fan of their president Michael D. Higgins - writer & poet by profession.) As a traveler and writer, I think I have earned that privilege :-) Please don't take it personal. If you want to dig up dirt on my country, I can help you with that. It doesn't offend me if there is some truths to them. And if there's something untrue, I brush it off, and correct any misconceptions. I find it difficult to think that any European country should be exempt from a bit of criticism in their own history present day politics. I do not make excuses for the atrocities my ancestors inflicted on Europe 1200 years ago. I own up to it! And in fact, I some times smile at it. Thinking, we were a bunch of bastards ourselves! I can either be a hypocritical bastard an romanticize them and wallow in hypocrisy or own up to it?, We did that!
