There are 3 major differences in the Bible and the Q'uran.  The Q'uran never prescribe forced conversions, freedom of religion.  It's a book that does not condemn science and knowledge.  Jesus was not a son of any god and a savior, but a man and a prophet.  Other than that, they're pretty much the same.

  2. larsthegunslinger That's what I said. The Bible supports forced conversions, or just plain killing any non-believer. The Q'uran does not. In fact, in comparison to the Bible, the Q'uran is almost like a renaissance in religion in comparison. The book endorses a public welfare system, healthcare for the poor, science, freedom of religion, and was a hell of a lot friendlier to women than the Bible at the time.  Looks to me that the "Islamists" are trying to copy the barbarism that is historical Christianity.

Dante Brown The problem is that extremists like to cherry pick what they want to emphasize.  When they behead civilians and commit genocide, they will find nothing in their Q'uran to justify coming from another country (like the majority of ISIL does) and slaughter tribes that has lived there for millennia just because they regard Jesus as a god, and not just a prophet.  Extremists on both sides (The Breivik gang and the "Islamists") take out whatever fits them to justify atrocities. Like when Muhammed was at war with the rest of the tribes (including Jews who did NOT believe in him as a gods messenger and fought him and his followers) and killed their enemy, extremists make that event into something that is universal. And they ignore verses like this;: From Abi Nadrah: Someone who heard the sermon of the Messenger of Allah in the middle of the days of at-Tashriq narrated to me that he said, "O people! Indeed, your Lord is one and your father is one. Indeed, there is no superiority of an Arab over a non-Arab, nor of a non-Arab over an Arab, nor of a white over a black, nor a black over a white, except by taqwa. Have I conveyed the message?" They replied, "You have conveyed it, Messenger of Allah!" Then he said, "What day is this?" They replied, "A sacred day." Then he said, "What month is this?" They replied, "A sacred month." Yes. Who are these better ones? I can suggest MLK, Gandhi, Mandela, Franz of Assisi, and all voices that preaches peace, tolerance and social justice as examples of whom are "taqwa". Imams and mullahs from Tehran or Mekka who arranges witch hunts and goes after "apostates" and non-believers are examples of what the opposite of a "Taqwa".... And again, I find myself "defending" a religion I have no relationship with whatsoever due to misinformation that has pestered the internet since 9-11.

  5. Alex McBride Let's just face it. There are rotten apples in both camps. And unfortunately, it's only the extremists with the loudest voices and most absolutist ideals whom are being heard.  The reasonable ones are being scuffled in the corner while the absolutists scream at each other, and both deem the reasonable ones to be traitors to "their cause"... Fundie vs. fundie. And a RW media and populist politicians who wants to legitimize the extremists on the other side, and pander to the extremists on their own side. And the reasonable ones are in the crossfire.
