@Lex Bright Raven These 'modern' conservatives just don't like the concept of meritocricy, or redistribution of wealth, which included the poor. What makes them raving mad is how Temujin trolls them with a tolerance and open mindedness to other religions. Turning a complete blind eye to how 'the west was won'.. from a world of unchristian 'savages' with no concept for 'property rights', Capitalism, slave plantations , fences, prisons, churches and time stamps.

These mytholical births always seem to have a sense of children's fairy tales behind them. Both Jesus and Gautama...

Speaking as a Norwegian who has lived in both Belfast and Dublin, I am almost getting a bit nostalgic.... Almost...

I was about to write a snarky remyyark on how History keeps repeating itself, and is mirrored in today's politics. And people are still dumb enough to elect the same kind of oligarchs keeping them down as the rich of Rome keeps corrupting the system - to keep the working man down.. But I saw that so many preceded me in this obvious observation.

Buddha said: "Don't worship idols, or enjoy abundancy. Life is suffering and pain". Buddhists goes ahead and worships Buddha statues and fight for more power and bling. What a contradictory concept. It's almost as if Buddhists have more in common with Muslims and Christians than you like to appreciate. The messiah myth. Might as well joust around with Ganesha.

@minhnguyenphanhoang4193 Buddhists do plenty of "things", they're "not supposed" to do. Everyone has their own unique path - though interwtined with others. Ever been to Thailand, Vietnam, or Saudi Arabia? Where do you think they serve alcohol?

@notrather5514 If that's how you define "progressive"....lol I think Tokujin had a few other clues in mind.

The eastern influence on Netherlands is still to be seen and read in Amsterdam. I go to a pharmacy named Sumatra Apothek. In Molukken straat. Where do you find such influence from "East India" in England other than curry shops?

What Teddy Roosevelt was about to build up 120 years ago, is about to be dismantled by RW lunatics in GOP today.

@thebestevertherewas Does "inner peace" include laughter, gallows humor, biting irony, sarcasm and cynisism? I used to be buddhist on the philosophical and intellectual level in my younger years. Until I read "Siddhartha" by Herman Hesse in a drunken state of mind some time in 1997, and started questioning everything. My own sanity. Including yours.... as I wrote my 2nd poetry collection and wondered what the hell it was all for. Other than having another drink. Now, I'm a full time pot smoker, and norse wizard with a pathfinder ring.
