Christian indoctrination was a part of the curriculum in my social democratic country. Played around with it for a few years. I liked the notion of a savior who stood up for the downtrodden and the poor. We didn't get exposed to other religions until 9th grade. Then it was world religions And suddenly new questions rose. Those questions became stronger in 12th grade when we took world religions once more. So unless you were asleep during class, people from my country should be well schooled in world religions. However, I see time and time again that this is not the case. Willful ignorance perhaps? I have always been fascinated by myths legends, and sagas. History in general. So studying religions has become a part of what I do. Having been to India and getting some sort of spiritual awakening made me lose all belief in biblical tales (as if I ever took the talking snake, burning bushes, walking on water and virgin births seriously) and became a Buddhist. At least the god thing is completely irrelevant to the core message of Buddhism. Now, I couldn't give a tuss about dogmas. There are some truths however that Buddhism offers that other dogmas don't. The gay thing never entered my mind regarding Christians' attitude towards it. Perhaps that's just an American thing. Or a fundie thing. An unhealthy obsession about sexuality. I do know now that many Xtians are obsessive about sexual practices. Especially other people's sexual practices. Condemning it with poorly disguised envy. And now I love exposing religious fundies regardless of what cult they belong to for the fakes that they truly are.
