I couldn't help but think Utopian as well. Malcolm is a classic "fix it" guy, a type of engineering mind. Which is nice. But it somehow fails to account for the spirit, or as he might prefer, the nature of fallen humans. It feels Sysiphean to me at times. Though he was fascinating to me for his deep desire to "help". The helping part eludes me because it feels like a love far away and abstract. Like... how do I help "the future". Is that a thing?

Malcolm’s voice is so true in that sense. He is a true believer in the modern project and I think hearing him is very helpful. Even when I disagree or am put off by his premises. Insightful comment you have here

The unbalance you speak of is the KEY! Deletingnourselves is the result of an improper and unbalanced understanding of what we are. Good stuff in you comment. But I love Malcolm for coming on and offering…

I know! So weird. I need to think about this more but it has to do with the anthropological presuppositions. Like… what is a human being. Then go from there. If that is off, all the science is off all the way down the line.

Wait you scored a 2!? Okay yung old boi, so is your love for Malcolm’s episode as one seeing his work as efficacious or is it a love for the episode as a type of unveiling of dangerous thinking? I’m fascinated because I loved it too as one being taught about the importance of presuppositions. Malcom’s presuppositions mean he will sound sensible and rational yet end up implementing things deeply irrational. Maybe? Like eugenics makes sense until it’s applied to a soul.

I wonder about this too. Sometimes I think all material prognostications are false without an accompanying spiritual world view.
