  1. Eminent domain laws should be banned! About 25 years ago, a woman was forced to sell her home, that her husband built and she had lived in since the 1940s, because the city said they needed it, and two adjacent properties, for future expansion of the sew plant. She didn’t receive a fair price - something like $70,000. One year later, the city sold that land for $700,000 to a Ford dealership.

  3. ThIs is ridiculous. This city, according to the site City Data, has lost about 30% of it’s population since 2000. The median yearly income is less than half of that of the state as a. whole (about $29,624 vs $64,811). It’s ridiculous that the city uses this dumb laws/codes to try to bring in revenue. It’s crime index in 2022 was 930.7, which is almost quadruple the national index of 246.1. Maybe they should concentrate on that.

  6. I wish I’d known about IJ when things were happening where I live in a very rural part of Oregon. There was a residence built several years ago for a DV shelter. Then the county decided they wanted to tear that house down to build another county building - and they prevailed. A few years ago, a space was donated for a warming station and several downtown business owner fought it since it was only a few blocks from downtown. Everything they complained about had zero to do with the warming station. Because they fought it, the warming station couldn’t open that winter. We get very cold winters here. It’s the old NIMBY attitude.
