  1. This is why I support universal health care for all. Secondly, the government need to build truly affordable housing for seniors that is not as needs-base as it is now. My sister could qualify for subsidized housing (she lives totally off social security as she is disabled) but, if she were to move into subsidized housing, she would lose the help she gets from the state that pays her Medicare part B as well as all her copays and prescriptions. Meanwhile, her rent keeps going up every year. Thankfully, in OR, there are protections for renters that set a max percentage the landlords are allowed to increase rent. In 2022, it was just under 10% and in 2023, it’s 14.6%. This increase will basically eat up her social security increase.
