  1. Alpha releases are a double-edged sword, hence it is much more common to see betas and/or release-candidates open to the public,while alphas are preserved to a much smaller and exclusive group. You risk turning off a large number of people when you release software in such a broken state, and it takes time for them to ever come back, and some never will at all. I do software development for a living (20 years), and would never have released the that alpha out in its current state. It is one thing to have some bugs, and even crashes, but it is a very bad to have overall performance so lacking this far into development. I would be interested in trying it again, but I am not bothering with anymore alphas or betas, and will wait for 1.1.
